The official conference themes for the XXI International Conference on Minority Languages (ICML 2027), which will take place in South Tyrol (Italy) from 22 to 26 June 2027, have now been confirmed.

The themes build on the long-standing core topics of the ICML conference series while also reflecting current developments in minority language research and the expertise of Eurac Research. Following a provisional overview previously published on the conference website, the official conference themes have now been finalised.

 

The conference themes are:

  • Linguistic vitality and minority languages

  • Education in and for minority languages

  • Media and minority languages

  • Language policy and legislation in the context of autonomy and minority rights

  • Minority languages and social/linguistic (in)justice

  • Contested languages

  • Minority languages in the age of artificial intelligence and new technologies

 

The official Call for Papers will be published on 22 June 2026, exactly one year before the conference.
